So, now that you have compiled all of your supplies it is time to check out the stitches you will need to know for our first CAL.
To crochet the La Push Blanket, you will need to know how to do the following stitches:
ch = chain
dc = double crochet
hdc = half double crochet
sl st = slip stitch
And for the DROPS blanket*, you will need to know these:
ch = chain
sc = single crochet
dc = double crochet
sl st = slip stitch
*Remember this pattern is written in British English. I translated & included the stitches for US terms. I also didn’t notice a hdc in this pattern, but you might want to look it over to make sure I didn’t miss it or any other stitches.*
I’ve attached tutorial links to each stitch. You can always check on Youtube for video lessons too or here. Your local library is a great resource also. One crochet book that I found to be very helpful is Teach Yourself Visually Crocheting.
Lia sent me an awesome link to a classic granny square tutorial via The Purl Bee. It uses US terms. Thanks, Lia!
When I learned to crochet in 2007, I followed along with this lesson from Crafty Daisies. I noticed that some of the links no longer work so I don’t know if it will be helpful to you or not, but it helped to finally teach me to crochet.
And for anyone who is struggling with learning to crochet, I thought I’d share with you a picture of my very first crocheted item.
It was supposed to be a single crocheted square! Looks more like a triangle. š Pretty pathetic.
But just two months later. . .
It took me three separate tries over several years before it finally clicked for me. Just keep practicing and soon it will click for you too. š
And, be sure to check back next Monday for the granny along’s first week’s task!
Oh, I really want to start crocheting again. I've learned and forgotten how 3 times now! Granny squares should be do-able, but I just don't feel I have the time now. š
I was gonna post the link to Purl Bee! I think I can follow that one because it has great big pictures and plain instructions!
