I’ve been wanting to try my hand at weaving for awhile but never took the time to learn. This past weekend I finally sat down and gave it a whirl.

A few months ago I picked up a great Prima Fiber Arts weaving kit at Hobby Lobby. The kit comes with everything you need to make a small woven wall hanging.

Unfortunately, the instructions that were included in the kit were not that great. So, I spent several hours watching YouTube videos to get the hang of the basics of weaving.

After several hours and plenty of trial and error, I mastered a few techniques. The tassels were a little tricky, but I finally got the hang of them. And weaving in a diagonal was fun.

The one thing I learned more than anything about weaving on a lap loom is it is totally NOT a cat-friendly craft. Between wrestling the yarn from one kitty and trying to keep the other one off of the loom was quite the task. I’m hoping they were both interested in it because it was something new and the novelty will wear off soon.

I’ll be finishing this wall hanging sometime this week and then I’m off to start on another one. I’d love to learn shapes next, but for now baby steps!
